Oh Georgia... rockin' faye bainbridge and prichard park lookout. makin' me feel old (mostly because I just found my senior photos, taken 10 years ago), reppin' the Bainbridge Island Class of 2016. These are some of my favourite senior photos to date. Georgia definitely nails the "serious" look, which she told me comes very naturally (ah, a girl after my own heart). I just love the depth of that serious look... a smile's not the only thing that can light up a face.

I had such a lovely senior session with Sonnet last week. The highlight of the day: having the chance to photograph her with her beautiful horse, Jackson. She even let me ride him bareback for a bit, which was just what my soul needed. I had two beloved horses growing up on the farm, who shaped my childhood quite powerfully. I hadn't had the chance to ride in almost 10 years. What a treat. Thanks, Sonnet!

This year, instead of the same ol' blog post gushing about my senior rep, singing her praises and bragging about how awesome she is, I decided to change things up a bit. Don't get me wrong, Rachel more than deserves the highest of praise, but instead of taking my word for it, I am going to let our Class of 2015 rep speak for herself.

*What are your plans after graduation?

I still haven’t decided what I want to do with my life. I know that I want to attend a liberal arts college, either on the East Coast or in the Midwest.  Right now I’m hoping on majoring in Foreign Relations and minoring in Spanish, although it’s still all up in the air.

*How about favorite hobbies?

One of my biggest hobbies is photography. I got a new camera for Christmas a few years ago and it is my most prized possession.  I also enjoy running and playing the piano.

*What is your favorite TV show? Why?

I don’t think I can pick just one TV show. Right now I’m obsessed with Modern Family, Parks and Recreation, The Mindy Project and New Girl. I really enjoy the lighthearted comedy in each of them. I’m not really one for dramas or thrillers.

*Do you have a role model?

My role model would definitely have to be Ellen DeGeneres. She is incredibly generous and has an amazing sense of humor. On top of that, Ellen encourages kindness, thoughtfulness and the spreading of joy. She clearly enjoys life and is so inspirational for me and many others.

*Favorite place you've ever traveled to / lived?

My favorite place that I've ever traveled to is, without a doubt, the Galapagos Islands. It was a phenomenal experience full of the most amazing animals and scenery. It was most definitely the trip of a lifetime.

My favorite place to have lived is Barcelona, Spain. It is such a vibrant and colorful city. Looking back now, I realize I took everything there for granted. I didn’t realize how lucky I was to be living in a city so full of culture. I remember complaining about having to visit Park Güell, a park designed by Antoni Gaudí, whereas now I would give anything to be able to go back again.

*What is the craziest thing that has ever happened to you?

One time I ran into one of my close friends from Kazakhstan while on vacation in India. I happened to bump into her in a crowded market, which was such a strange coincidence.

*If you had to eat one meal for a year, what would it be?

Tacos. They are my absolute favorite meal, and I would not complain to having to eat them for a whole year.

*If someone handed you a hundred dollar bill right now, and you had to spend it, what would you do with it?

To be honest, I would probably go shopping. I know that’s not the best use of a hundred dollars and there are probably many better things I could spend it one, but it’s the honest truth.

*What’s the best quality a human being can have?

Integrity.  I think the ability to be honest and stay true to yourself, no matter the situation, is by far the best quality a human being can have.

*If you were a superhero, what would your powers be?

If I were a superhero, my power would be to teleport. I think being able to travel between two locations would be a lifesaver. The ability to read minds would be cool as well, but that would get old in no time.

*Complete the sentence, “If in doubt…”

Talk it out. I often find that talking helps me problem solve much quicker than just reasoning with myself.

*How will you change the world?

I hope to change the world by helping out those in need. This coming summer, I am headed to Ghana for a month to work with children in a school in a small village. I really hope that my time there will make a lasting impact in the lives of those in the community.

...

Rachel, thank you so much for your time and effort, and for sharing your beautiful self with us. You have great things ahead of you, and we're excited to see where life takes you!
